New UEFA Champions League Format, Fixtures & Rules

As the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League begins today 17th September, 2024, fans all over the world will see a new format with 36 teams in Europe competing for the most sought-after club competition.

Starting from this season UEFA Champions League will feature a revamped format, expanding from 32 to 36 participating teams, which is the first time in the history of the competition. As a result of this new format champions league clubs will play more games than when the old format was in play.

The key changes in the new Champions League format

  1. Eight Matches: The traditional group stage is replaced by a single league phase, where all 36 teams compete against each other in a unified table. Each team will play eight matches against eight different opponents, with four home games and four away games, ensuring a diverse range of fixtures.
  2. New Knockout Phase: The top eight teams in the league table will qualify directly for the round of 16. Teams finishing between 9th and 24th will compete in a two-legged playoff to secure their spot in the knockout phase.
  3. Increased Matches: The new format increases the total number of matches from 125 to 189, with the ultimate winners playing 17 games across the competition.
  4. One team can play a maximum of two teams from the same country in the League Phase.

These changes aim to increase competition, unpredictability, and excitement in the competition while providing more opportunities for teams to compete against diverse opponents.

In an exclusive account, Mikel explained that a mix of salary disagreements and complex negotiations ultimately led to the collapse of Osimhen’s move, leaving Chelsea fans speculating on what might have been.

Osimhen’s transfer to Chelsea fell apart due to disputes over his salary and a challenging transfer process. Napoli rejected Chelsea’s offer, as Osimhen received interest from Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli.

Further complications arose when Napoli altered the terms of their deal with Al Ahli. Osimhen then secured a loan move to Galatasaray. In an appearance on “The Obi One Podcast,” Mikel discussed why Osimhen didn’t make it to the Premier League, though a deal could still happen in January.

He said, “I know what Victor wanted, what the club offered him, and where negotiations stood. Both sides had to make compromises, and while there were minor issues with paperwork, medicals, and timing, both Chelsea and Victor worked hard to make the deal happen.”

“I commend Chelsea for showing their ambition, and I saw how much Victor wanted to join the club.”

Napoli offers €25m to Manchester United for Scott McTominay

Manchester United have received €25m (25 million Euro) proposal from Napoli for Scott McTominay but still not enough to proceed.

The English club, Manchester United is asking for fee in excess of €30m (30 million Euro) to sell McTominay to the Italian side, Napoli who are willing to pay 25 million Euro for the deal.

Popular sports Journalist, Romano Fabrizio made the announcement via his x account on the 23rd of August, 2024.

Meanwhile, the deal is likely to become reality as the red devils keeps on signing new players and would likely want to offload some players from the club.

Manchester United agree deal to sign Sekou Kone from Guidars FC

Manchester United have reportedly secured the signing of Malian talent Sekou Kone from Guidars FC, making him the club’s second African player to be signed in the 2024 summer window.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have finalized an agreement to bring Sekou Kone, an 18-year-old prospect, into their U18 or U21 squads as part of their ongoing strategy to strengthen their youth ranks. A Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has authorized substituted service on key witnesses in the ongoing inquest into Mohbad’s death.

The court allows the family’s legal team to reach additional witnesses who may have information about Mohbad’s death. Magistrate T. A. Sotobi granted Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, permission to serve witness summonses on interested persons through a reputable national newspaper and social media platforms.

The inquest aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding demise of late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba (aka Mohbad).

Enzo Maresca gives update on Cole Palmer’s injury

Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca, has updated the media on Cole Palmer’s injury after the Blues UEFA Europa Conference League play-off against Servette at Stamford Bridge.

Palmer was seen leaving the stadium holding his right hamstring in what seemed to be an injury, which was a bit of concern for the club’s supporters. However, Enzo Maresca downplayed the severity of the injury to the Englishman, he said that Cole Palmer had felt something but appeared to be fine after an initial check and also expressed optimism that he would be available for the League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He said; “Cole felt something, but he looks fine. They already checked him, and he looks okay, hopefully it’s not any problem, and he can be available for Sunday’s game.”

Imo State College of Nursing Orlu Admission Form 2024/2025

The admission form for the Imo State College of Nursing Sciences, Orlu, for the 2024/2025 academic session is now available.

Applications for admission into the Imo State College of Nursing will be open until September 20, 2024. Registration for the General Nursing Programme will begin on August 20, 2024. The cut-off mark is 150, and the form costs N21,000.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must have selected Imo State College of Nursing Sciences, Orlu, as their first choice and achieved a minimum of 150 in the UTME.
  • General Nursing must be chosen as the programme.
  • Candidates who did not select Imo State College of Nursing Sciences as their first choice but meet the cut-off mark should change their first-choice institution to Imo State College of Nursing Sciences via the JAMB website before the application deadline.
  • Results must be uploaded to JAMB to be considered.
  • Applicants need five credits in SSCE or its equivalent, including English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics, at no more than two sittings.

Application Process:

  1. Make a payment of N21,000 at the College bursary and collect a Portal Login Pin.
  2. Visit the College’s website at www.imcons.edu.ng, click on “new admission,” and follow the steps provided.
  3. Print your application form after submission.
  4. Submit a copy of the form and the payment receipt to the Admissions unit.
  5. Bring the acknowledgment slip to the screening venue on the test date.

Screening Dates:

The aptitude test is scheduled for September 24-26, 2024, starting at 9 AM.
