Nicolas Pepe breaks silence on the media, as he gives detailed revelation of his time in the English Premier League with Arsenal.

Nicolas Pepe has admitted that he contemplated quitting football due to the abuse he endured during his time at Arsenal. The Ivorian forward signed for the Gunners in the summer transfer windows of 2019 following an impressive season at Lille.

Arsenal paid £72 million to secure his services amidst interest from various European clubs. Despite showing occasional moments of brilliance, Pepe struggled to meet expectations at the Emirates.

Many believed that Arsenal did not receive a satisfactory return on their investment. During his three-year tenure at the club, he scored 27 goals but faced severe criticism throughout his time there.

Ultimately, Arsenal decided to terminate his contract to alleviate the burden of his substantial wages.

In an interview with French outlet L’Equipe, Pepe said: “It was almost harassment. I don’t spend much time on social media, but if my brother told me about the comments, it would unconsciously affect me. The criticism also came from the media and certain members of the club. They don’t realize the impact it can have on mental well-being, family, and performance.”

He also expressed his frustration at being labeled the “biggest flop in the history of the Premier League” but asserted that he refused to let it defeat him. Following his time at Arsenal, Pepe played for Trabzonspor in Turkey, where he scored six goals last season before his one-year deal expired. He is now a free agent.

Reflecting on his relationship with Mikel Arteta, who authorized his departure, Pepe complained that the Spanish coach initially had interest in him but consistently left him on the bench. “How could I be a substitute when he said he counted on me?” Pepe said.
