Chelsea winger, Mykhailo Mudryk might be sidelined for a longer period of time as recent reports revealed that he has been charged with anti-doping rule violations.
The Ukrainian international has been hit with a serious charge by The Football Association (FA) for alleged anti-doping rule violations, a development that could see Mudryk off the football scene for up to four years.
In a statement released by The FA, it was confirmed that the winger is currently facing allegations related to the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance under Regulations 3 and 4 of the governing body’s law.
“We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA’s Anti-Doping Regulations. As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time,” The FA stated.
These regulations align with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code and are in place to maintain the integrity of professional football. Regulation 3 refers to the presence of a banned substance in a player’s system, while Regulation 4 involves the use or attempted use of such substances.
While no details have been released regarding the specific substance or how it was detected, the implications will be significant. If found guilty, Mudryk could face a ban of up to 4 years from all football-related activities.
The 23-year-old made a high-profile move from Shakhtar Donetsk to Chelsea in January 2023, but his time in the Premier League has been a mix of flashes of promise and ongoing inconsistency. This latest development adds a major cloud of uncertainty to both his career and Chelsea’s plans.
Chelsea are yet to release an official statement regarding this, and it remains unclear whether the club was informed about the case before it was made public. For now, Mudryk is still under investigation as the process unfolds.
