Reece James shares secret to his fitness so far

Chelsea skipper Reece James has voiced his relief and excitement over his renewed fitness levels, a positive change coinciding with the arrival of manager Enzo Maresca.

After struggling with recurrent hamstring injuries over the past two seasons, the right-back is finally operating at full capacity thanks to careful management by the Chelsea medical team this year.

When asked about his consistent health following the recent win over Nottingham Forest, James shared his optimistic outlook: “I am on the way to getting back to where I was; it’s taken a long time, but I’m feeling stronger game by game. I’m happy to be playing for Chelsea Football Club and playing regularly again makes me happy. I’ve had significant help from many people behind the scenes; they know who they are. There is one person at the club I work closely with who has been crucial in keeping me on the pitch.”

The last two campaigns have been a battle for Reece James, as hamstring injuries continuously fractured his season and prevented him from fulfilling his potential. Though he was awarded the Chelsea captaincy in August 2023, his 2023–24 season quickly soured.
