Son next club revealed after Tottenham exit

Long-serving Tottenham Hotspur player, Son Heung-min has announced his exit from the North London side after ten years of giving his best to the club.

Son Heung-min made the announcement during a press conference alongside the new club manager, Thomas Frank while they were on pre-season tour with Tottenham in Seoul. The South Korean joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and has scored 173 goals in 454 appearances.

He led Tottenham to beating Manchester United in the Europa League final in May to clinch their first trophy in 17 years.

What did Heung-min say about his exit from Tottenham?

Son Heung-min confirmed that leaving Tottenham was “the most difficult decision” he has made in his entire football career. He expressed pride in his journey, stating, “I came to North London as a kid – a very young age, a young boy came to London who didn’t even speak English.

Leaving this club as a grown man is a very, very proud moment.” He also mentioned that the club was supportive of his decision. He further explained that he felt he had “achieved everything I could at Tottenham” and needed “a new environment for a fresh challenge” and “a little bit of change,” as “Ten years is a long time.” Winning the Europa League final was a significant factor in this feeling.

How many Premier League goals did Son score for Tottenham?

The 33-year-old scored 127 Premier League goals for Tottenham. This places him level with former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at 16th in the league’s all-time scorers list.

Which club will Son join next after leaving Spurs?

Son is expected to join the MLS league, with Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) being the most likely destination. The agreement with LAFC is described as “very advanced, at final stages,” and the club is optimistic about completing the deal.

It has been reported that the large South Korean community in Los Angeles was a significant factor in his decision, as well as the opportunity to play in the US before the 2026 World Cup in North America.
